As much of a lover of digital content and media as I can be, I have always struggled with the lack of tactility that is often present in virtual experiences. I crave the texture and feeling of physical media, the tangible sense of understanding that comes along with holding an object with your own two hands. Simultaneously, I am acutely aware that we live in a digital-dominant world and that for the most part, it can be a huge benefit to many people. While I’ve struggled with my own needs for feeling engaged and inspired rather than burnt-out by digital formats, the questions I ask myself in the conceptual phase have changed from “How do I make my traditional processes work in digital media?” to “How can I form digital content that delivers a more tangible experience and connection for those who engage with it?”. Am I still exploring how to answer this question? Absolutely. I don’t believe there can be single solution, but rather many that I would like to continue to explore over the course of my career.
